Are you a passionate and experienced midwife with a flair for education, coaching and supporting the next generation of maternity professionals? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our friendly, innovative and supportive Maternity Practice Development Team at Frimley Park Hospital.

This rewarding Band 7 secondment offers the chance to make a real impact on the future midwifery workforce by leading and enhancing the learning experience for midwifery students, external learners and work-experience placements across our maternity services.

About The Role

As Practice Development Midwife for Students, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating and delivering high-quality clinical placements, ensuring learners receive an outstanding and inclusive educational experience within a dynamic multi-professional environment.

Working closely with our Practice Development Team, clinical staff and university partners, you will help shape a positive culture of learning, support and professional growth throughout the service.

Frimley Health Foundation Trust currently provides clinical placements for midwifery students from four universities, offering a diverse and engaging learning environment with excellent opportunities to influence and inspire future midwives.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and coordinate high‑quality clinical placements for midwifery students, external learners and work‑experience placements.
  • Provide expert support, teaching and supervision to students, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning experience.
  • Work closely with clinical teams, Practice Development staff and universities to support student progression and assessment.
  • Support and develop practice supervisors and assessors to maintain high standards of education.
  • Contribute to the delivery of education programmes, induction and preceptorship across maternity services.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, reflective practice and high‑quality patient care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Current Midwifery NMC registrant
  • Degree in midwifery or relevant subject
  • Practice assessor status and a track record of on-going student support

Desirable criteria

  • Leadership/management training
  • Undertaking Master study
  • PROMPT/NLS intructor

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of presenting at conferences.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Ability to prepare, deliver and evaluate presentations.
  • Demonstrates strong clinical leadership and influencing skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Confident in teaching and assessing students.

Desirable criteria

  • Report writing skills
  • Policy writing skills.
