About The Blue Door

The Blue Door is the specialist domestic abuse service for North Lincolnshire. We deliver trauma-informed, survivor-centred support to people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence, working in partnership to improve safety, recovery and long-term outcomes.

Our vision is a community where everyone affected by abuse feels safe, heard and supported.

About the Role

We are recruiting for Outreach Independent Domestic Violence Adviser (IDVA) to provide community-based support for survivors experiencing domestic abuse, working primarily with standard and medium risk victims.

This role focuses on early intervention and prevention, offering short-term advocacy, outreach and practical support to help survivors increase safety, confidence and access to services. You will also deliver community drop-in support and contribute to awareness and education groups, helping to reduce stigma and improve understanding of domestic abuse across local communities.

While experience in domestic abuse work is welcome, it is not essential. What matters most to us is who you are, not what you have done before. We will provide training, development and ongoing support to help you succeed in the role.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A genuine passion for supporting people who may be experiencing fear, harm or inequality
  • The strength and confidence to advocate on behalf of survivors and ensure their voices are heard
  • Resilience and emotional maturity to work with distress, trauma and complexity
  • Tenacity and determination to navigate systems and challenge barriers safely and professionally
  • A values-led approach that respects survivor choice, autonomy and dignity
  • The ability to build trusting, respectful relationships
  • A commitment to equality, inclusion and trauma-informed practice

You do not need prior IDVA experience. If you bring the right qualities, we will support you to develop the knowledge and skills.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing independent, trauma-informed advocacy and support to survivors of domestic abuse
  • Working primarily with standard and medium risk cases, offering early and preventative support
  • Delivering community drop-in sessions offering advice, information and short-term support
  • Supporting the delivery of awareness and education groups in community settings
  • Completing risk assessment, safety planning and regular reviews
  • Supporting survivors to understand their options around housing, safeguarding, health and justice systems (without providing legal advice)
  • Working collaboratively with partner agencies while maintaining clear professional boundaries
  • Keeping accurate, confidential records and contributing to service improvement

Why Work for The Blue Door

  • A trauma-informed, supportive organisational culture
  • Full training and development, including IDVA qualification support
  • Reflective supervision and strong peer support
  • A real opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives
  • An organisation that values compassion, integrity and advocacy

Additional Information

  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle are required
