Overview
In this associate director-level role, you will lead a high-performing writing team, being accountable for scientific knowledge and content development on one large account and/or several smaller accounts for the business. You will Think Further to inspire and motivate the team; optimize medical writing practices; and proactively develop and advocate for individual members and the wider team, both internally and externally. You will be seen as a leader of scientific knowledge, content creation, and medical communications activities, across the MSE Team at Langland.

Responsibilities
Leadership and team management
- Provide effective leadership for a medical writing team including performance management, reward and recognition, professional development and training, and creating an inclusive and equitable environment
- Seen by the client/experts as a lead member of the team to manage broad account requests/challenges as required
- Support Client Services with resource alignment to optimise team performance and people development; supports with recruitment as needed to optimise team performance
- Advocate for the medical writing team both internally and externally
- Uphold our values for diversity, equity and inclusion
- Help elevate the external reputation of Langland across experts, clients and competitors
- Through effective process, feedback and management, take overall responsibility for a writing team’s content delivery for designated accounts
- Able to provide critical review of materials ad hoc, without expert-level knowledge
- Lead scientific pitch research and presentation for MSE opportunities
- Provide active counsel and recommendations to clients, partnering with client teams to develop editorial and content plans and optimise the impact of the writing team
- Establish network across Langland to access skills/capabilities as needed to elevate work
- Establish strong external relationships that can be leveraged for business benefit
- Knowledge
- Maintain high-profile visibility within the agency as a content and scientific expert across multiple therapy areas
- Be perceived as a knowledge expert in assigned accounts by clients/experts
- Proactively identify opportunities and threats to the team, and evolving business needs
- Proactively make recommendations for enhancing programme development and supporting organic growth
- Support the development of therapy area and/or brand scientific strategy (in collaboration with the Scientific Strategy Team where appropriate)
- Considerable experience within a medical communications agency or an in-house pharma med comms team, preferable within a medical writing team, demonstrating: Inclusive, inspirational leadership
- Overarching scientific and content leadership for accounts
- Responsibility for maintaining high editorial and scientific standards across a team
- Development of writing talent through direct line management and training
- An aptitude for identifying opportunities/threats and developing appropriate solutions
- An ability to motivate and inspire people, and elevate standards of content curation
- Strong internal, client and expert relationships
