Date: 5 days ago
City: York
Contract type: Full time
Remote

The Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York is looking for two individuals to help lead our finance function working with a number of volunteers.
What difference will you make?
Working as part of the trustee board, you will have a great opportunity to shape the future of the Joseph Rowntree Theatre at an exciting point in our history. This year we are celebrating our 90th anniversary while also working to improve our facilities and offering for our hirers, volunteers and audience members.Whether you have experience and want to share it, or a passion to get involved and want to learn, then we could have the role for you.The roles are voluntary and the theatre is based in York, UK. You will need time to undertake the activities required within the role, usually around 20 hours per month, and other board responsibilities. These include attending regular board meetings and acting as a duty manager to ensure the smooth operation of the theatre during performances.Trustee roles allow you to gain experience working at a board/strategic level and learn what is involved so no previous experience as a trustee is required. While some of our trustees have theatre related experience, including performing, directing and working backstage this isn’t necessary and we welcome everyone who would like to get involved.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for experience and / or a qualification in accounting. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. The theatre uses Xero to manage its finances on a day-to-day basis so experience of that or other software is helpful.
What will you be doing?
We are seeking two people to lead our finance activities working with the support of a number of volunteers. The team undertakes the theatre’s finance functions, including Processing invoices, charges to hirers and other relevant day to day tasks. Producing management reports for the theatre board. Reconciling bank accounts with the Xero accounting system and our box office ticketing system. Dealing with VAT and Performing Rights receipts/payments. Managing a very small payroll. The theatre has ambitious plans for the future, which will require careful financial planning and monitoring.
