Circus Eruption

Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Swansea
Contract type: Full time
We're an inclusion charity, using circus to support EVERYONE (especially those facing challenges) without barriers or stigma. We're seeking new Trustees for an upcoming period of change, to help us ensure we keep on the right tracks in all aspects of our development.

What difference will you make?

This cohort of Trustees will see us through some major organisational adjustments.

We will be considering our future strategy in the upcoming year, ensuring that we are ready for the inevitable adjustments that will come with our building developments - and help us make the most of them in a way that enhances and amplifies our objects.

If you're good with marketing etc, you can help us to see ourselves from the outside - when you get to know us, help us understand what we're missing! This will help funders to understand us better, as well as enabling people to see what we have to offer in terms of team building and workshops they can hire us for.

We have solid foundations for the future based on 35 years of practice, and a decade of gentle organisational development - this cohort of Trustees will be seeing us through a catalysed adjustment period as our bricks and mortar further stabilise us, and the additional space we're creating brings all kinds of new opportunities and challenges!

What are we looking for?

We'd be pleased to welcome Trustees who can help us navigate the upcoming years - whether that's gained through third sector or other sectors. We're open to a range of skills but need to consider a marketing strategy (specifically for our trading work, including corporate team building) , and need people to support us through a range of change management and all that goes with periods of adjustment.

Hybrid

What will you be doing?

We run circus workshops for children and young people from a former church which we bought in 2019, and we want to keep all our current activities going, develop trading, and launch a new corporate team building offer in the near future - alongside a major building project on our currently unused 'second space', which brings enormous potential. The upcoming year we'll be finalising a lot of future plans, building and organisational, to make sure that our building development years are smooth, and to ensure that the organisation sustains its ethos and activities, and the building serves our objects.

We need Trustees with experience in marketing, business development and change management (other skills also welcome!). Trustees need to support our inclusion ethos and principles, and recognise that all the other things we do (trading, building development) ultimately exist to enable people to participate with others on an equal footing, to be part of something, and flourish as a result.

We have a small, established staff team and a board with a range of skills across a range of professions; a mix of people who've been young people and staff of the organisation (of a range of ages, as we have been going 35 years!), those who are totally external, heritage professionals for our building etc. The board meets online every 6-8 weeks, usually but not exclusively with the director present, and twice a year we try and get all the board and staff team together. This means that we are able to welcome board members from across the UK; at present, two are in London and the rest are based near Circus Eruption (Swansea).
