The Vacancy

Materials & Structures, part of RSK Group are looking for a Senior Project Manager to join their team in Hemel Hempstead, supporting the team with their Engineering Projects. This is a full-time, permanent position.

We provide specialist inspection, surveying and investigation services within the built environment. We also provide consultancy services to a range of clients in the public and private sectors. The department includes a UKAS-accredited laboratory, enabling us to provide in-house services for evaluating construction materials and to assist our clients with detailed assessment reports and guidance.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team and supporting senior members of staff
  • Coordinate, plan and undertake building investigations and surveys, sampling and testing of structures and construction materials on sites across the UK.
  • Liaise with clients and prepare inspection/testing programmes.
  • Manage projects to achieve time and cost budget targets.
  • Analyse inspection and test data and prepare interpretative technical reports.
  • Manage tenders from inception to completion, through the process of receiving and expediting investigation enquiries, carrying out site scoping visits (with mentees wherever practical in order to teach others about scope clarification), developing Client relationships in-person and drafting proposals in response to specifications.
  • Oversee the management of structural fabric, defect and materials investigations.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to a dedicated team of engineers and technicians.
  • Take responsibility for line management of trainees and less experienced colleagues.
  • Contribute to recruitment and wider team building/development.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication (written and oral) with clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management, set and meet realistic deadlines.
  • Be aware of new developments in the industry, seek to make improvements and implement them.
  • Be a champion for innovation.
  • Develop and implement commercial awareness.
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence by providing detailed technical review of proposals and reports and feeding back to staff.
  • Maintain a record of professional development/training to facilitate progress to appropriate recognition/qualifications.
  • Foster new relationships between existing Clients, colleagues across the RSK Group and other members of the Materials & Structures team.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Practicality and problem-solving abilities in the field.
  • Interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Minimum 5 years prior relevant industry experience with relevant undergraduate Bachelors degree (Civil Engineering or similar), or:
  • Minimum 7 years relevant industry experience, including team leadership and/or project management.
  • Full UK driving licence.


Preferred:

  • Leading a team
  • Relevant Masters degree (Civil Engineering or similar)
  • Membership of Professional Body (ICE, IStructE, RICS, ICT or similar)
  • Experience in building investigation methods, including non-intrusive investigation techniques.
  • Developing and maintaining client and other industry contacts.
  • Realisation of business development opportunities.
  • Understanding of defect investigation practices, appropriate testing methods.
  • Interpretation of published information, codes of practice, legislation and field/test data.
  • Provision of professional advice, both orally and in writing.
  • Vocational industry qualifications, such as CSCS, IPAF, PASMA, IRATA


Salary and benefits:

  • Up to £56,000 per annum
