Job Summary
The Senior Global Commodity Buyer will be responsible for managing procurement expenditure for the systems and fasteners “commodity”. The prime focus will be on supporting the Luton and Garden Grove facilities (U.S.), which make aircraft transparencies and anti-ice aircraft systems, although there will also be a need to support the commodity procurement functions with the other Defence business line sites (Cowes, Hoogeveen, Tallassee) where the manufacture is centred around making aero-structures and engine nacelles. The Luton/Garden Grove procurement requirements are typically for raw materials (eg acrylic, glass, chemicals), as well as parts (eg ranging from formed glass windows to seals to fasteners), whereas the procurement requirements of the other sites cover a whole range of proprietary or supplier-designed/qualified products.
Typically, the products are sole sourced and competitive leverage is limited. Therefore the role will require the ability to forge strong strategic relationships with the suppliers, negotiate best value for GKN, put long-term agreements in place, and to ensure a joined-up approach across the GKN sites, especially where suppliers are common to more than one GKN site. The role entails operating with a high degree of autonomy whilst being an effective member of the commodity management team delivering cost effective solutions. The role will involve working closely with stakeholders within GKN (eg Programme Management, Engineering, Quality, Site Procurement and Commercial functions), to ensure GKN is maximising the opportunities within its supply chain, in order to give GKN competitive advantage.
Reporting to the Commodity Procurement Manager, the Senior Global Commodity Buyer be based at the Luton manufacturing facility. The role will require flexibility for National and International travel for supplier visits and to other GKN sites such as Cowes, Isle of Wight and Bristol. Flexibility with working hours is required, to meet the needs of the business, due to some suppliers are based overseas.
