Are you an organised and customer-focused individual looking for a rewarding role in public service? Luton Council is seeking a Receptionist/Administrator & Deputy Registrar to join our team at the Luton Register Office.

As part of our dedicated team, you will provide reception and administrative support while also acting as a Deputy Registrar to register births, deaths, and marriages in accordance with statutory regulations. You will ensure that all visitors receive a caring, professional, and efficient service, whether at the Register Office, in places of worship, or at approved wedding venues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Register births, deaths, and marriages in accordance with legal requirements
  • Provide friendly and professional reception cover, greeting and assisting visitors
  • Manage the electronic diary, schedule appointments, and handle enquiries
  • Maintain accurate registers, records, and indexes of life events
  • Handle correspondence, emails, and telephone calls with efficiency and discretion
  • Process payments, cash up monies received, and reconcile records in line with Council procedures
  • Assist with adoptions, corrections, and re-registrations

About You

What We’re Looking For:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
  • Experience in customer service and administration
  • Ability to work with sensitive information with confidentiality and empathy
  • Knowledge of relevant registration laws and procedures (or willingness to learn)
  • Competence in IT systems, including electronic scheduling and payments
  • You’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken.
