What you need to know about the role
We have an opportunity for Semi-Skilled Craft Team Members (Electrical & Mechanical) to join our Engineering teams at our Scunthorpe site.
This role is designed for individuals who have some engineering experience or a relevant background, and who are looking to build a long-term career in heavy industry. You will support the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance activities, working alongside experienced Craft colleagues to maintain and improve plant reliability. This is an environment that is highly mechanised and safety critical, so a strong understanding of safe working practices and a willingness to learn are essential.
At British Steel, this role is part of a structured progression pathway, giving you the opportunity to develop into a fully qualified Craft Team Member through training, experience and demonstrated competence.
What we need to know about you
We’re open to candidates who are:
- Semi-skilled with some hands-on electrical or mechanical experience
- Recently qualified or working towards a relevant engineering qualification
- Looking to move into engineering from a related technical or industrial background
- Motivated to learn and build a long-term career in engineering
You’ll also:
- Be a strong team player with good communication skills
- Show a positive, reliable approach to work
- Be flexible and open to ongoing training and development
- Demonstrate good timekeeping and attendance
Skills and experience
Ideally, you will have some of the following:
- Basic electrical or mechanical engineering knowledge
- Experience of working in a manufacturing, industrial or construction environment
- An interest in maintenance and fault finding
- Awareness of health and safety in the workplace
Formal qualifications are beneficial but not essential for entry at this level - we are particularly interested in people with the right attitude and willingness to develop.

Progression is based on:
- Development of practical skills and technical competence
- Completion of relevant training and qualifications
