Mental Health Support Worker

Job description

Solihull College & University Centre is seeking a skilled Mental Health Support Worker to join at the start of the new academic year. You will provide professional, structured mental health support to students, enabling them to progress both personally and academically. The role involves delivering short-term therapeutic interventions, undertaking triage and risk assessment, and supporting students experiencing mental ill health or reduced wellbeing.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to assess, monitor and support young people and adults with a range of mental health needs, including responding appropriately to students considered at risk and managing crisis situations in line with safeguarding procedures.

To be considered for this role, you should hold a Degree in a course relating to Mental Health, Counselling or Psychology, and/or a Level 3 qualification in Counselling (or equivalent recognised therapeutic qualification). An understanding of relevant legislation and good practice within the realm of Mental Health Support Services is essential.

The successful candidate will work across all College campuses, collaborate effectively with internal teams and external agencies, and contribute to the delivery of mental health awareness and psychoeducational training for students and staff.

The College is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community and welcomes applications from individuals across all sectors. We aim to reflect the diversity of our student population in our staff profile, ensuring that we provide the best possible experience and environment for our learners. Our goal is to continue to develop a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive workplace where all staff can thrive.

As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will be required to attend the College premises, unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Solihull College & University Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and expects all staff to actively uphold this commitment.
