AVANTOR Services offers a wide range of laboratory support services designed to save our customers time and money. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician - Automation to join our service, providing technical support in the Cancer Research Horizons Functional Genomics Centre (FGC), a unique and equal collaboration between industry and academia, with the goal to identify novel targets and resistance mechanisms to create novel cancer medicines.

To achieve this, the FGC is developing and applying advanced CRISPR/Cas technologies to perform genome-wide screens to interrogate gene function in the context of drug treatment to fully support pre-clinical Oncology portfolio. The jobholder will mainly support the FGC team in preparing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) libraries using liquid handling automation to deconvolute genome-wide CRISPR screens and provide general support within both molecular biology and cell culture laboratories.

The successful candidate will report to the Avantor research Service team lead and will be task managed on a day-to-day basis within the client environment. This role is lab-based focusing on the delivery of the FGC’s technical support in accordance with Health and Safety and GLS requirements. The successful candidate will significantly contribute to the practical delivery of genome-wide CRISPR screens by becoming the expert in handling automation designed for NGS library preparation. Hands-on experience with using automation is desired but not required as extensive training will be provided. General knowlege of molecular biology techniques including Next Generation Sequencing libraries preparation would be advantageous. Additional knowledge and experience in experimental set ups would also be valuable.

This is a full-time, temporary (12-month) position based at The Discovery Centre, a state-of-the-art facility. In addition to an attractive salary, we offer multiple benefits, including a pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an extra day off for your birthday.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 17:00

The Team

You will be part of a collaborative team of 10-15 associates, working on well-defined projects and supporting the day-to-day operations of our laboratory. You will belong to our Lab and Production Services department, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide, contributing to Research and Development in the Life Sciences industry.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline or laboratory experience with hands-on experience in laboratory techniques and mammalian cell culture.
  • Experience:
    • Experience or theoretical knowledge of mammalian cell culture techniques and cell biology
    • Familiarity with liquid-handling automation systems, such as Hamilton, and their application in laboratory workflows
    • Experience with or a willingness to learn how to create computer-based scripts for laboratory machines and automation systems
    • Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to maintain equipment to prevent recurring issues
    • Proficiency in basic computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and any data analysis tools or laboratory management systems
