Purpose of the role


Colas are responsible for the eight-year Maintenance & Response contract for National Highways Area 9, covering around 2,300 miles of the Strategic Road Network across the Midlands region.


We’re looking for an experienced Ganger based at our Doxey Depot, ST18 9LG to lead highways maintenance and ZRT teams, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This role is mainly night shifts, although some rotation may be required. You’ll play a key role in maintaining vital transport routes and supporting incident response, severe weather operations, and minor works across a critical UK transport network.


Staffordshire | Predominantly Night Shifts | £16.89 per hour

Monthly paid salary

Addtional rated paid for overtime and shift patterns

Up to 10% combined pension contributions
21 days holiday + bank holidays

Main Responsibilities


As a Ganger your duties will include but not be limited to the following:


  • Leading and motivating operational teams on-site
  • Delivering daily briefings and allocating work
  • Ensuring all health & safety documentation is completed correctly
  • Supporting incident response and winter maintenance activities
  • Carrying out toolbox talks and site safety audits
  • Working closely with planners, supervisors, and subcontractors
  • Promoting a strong safety-first culture across all operations

Ideal Candidate


As a Ganger, we are looking for:


Highways maintenance experience
Team leadership/supervisory experience
Highways Passport (E)
CSCS Level D
SSSTS qualification
Full UK Driving Licence
Strong understanding of health & safety and highways legislation
Good communication and decision-making skills
