The Director of Conjugation is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of conjugation within R&D in Abcam and will manage a conjugation team in Cambridge, UK. Working closely with the Product team, the role holder will be responsible for guiding on the development of dyes in specific key markets, label types and future developments in labels in addition to expanding on conjugation methodologies for the labelling of antibodies for the research market. The role holder is expected to work closely with other Operating Companies within the Danaher family to drive success in this area.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead the Cambridge Conjugation team, a team of Scientists focused on delivering internal and custom-conjugation projects to time and cost.
- Lead the future R&D strategy of Conjugation in Abcam globally through a mixture of direct and influencing methodologies, building a roadmap of conjugation technology improvements for future growth and delivery of Abcam’s conjugation portfolio.
- Drive the implementation of future labels and dye chemistries to increase the conjugation portfolio.
- Define business cases, secure resources and drive technical goals on time and on budget for conjugation needs, interacting with Research & Innovation and other departments, as required.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Abcam conjugation to external partners and internal Operating Company discussions to showcase Abcam’s conjugation expertise and technologies.
- Drive process improvements in conjugation using Danaher’s toolkit of DBS tools in improvements.
- A Ph.D., or equivalent in a life sciences discipline
- Long standing extensive experience in conjugation methodologies or chemical modifications in academia and industry
- Multiple years of experience managing people and leading a team
- A deep knowledge of conjugation techniques, including the current state of the art
- Ability to distil complex scientific problems and communication effectively to both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in matrix settings, both within the organization and with external partners.
- Track record of delivering challenging technical projects on-time and on-budget.
- 10% travel – visiting other sites and conference/trade shows
- Chemistry and dye manufacture.
