The Role

As Deputy Financial Controller, you will act as the operational lead across month-end close, balance sheet governance, audit delivery, and financial controls.

Working closely with the Financial Controller, you’ll ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, while playing a key role in strengthening processes, supporting technical accounting matters, and maintaining a robust control framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day month-end close to achieve Working Day 5 timelines
  • Review journals, accruals, and team-prepared calculations
  • Prepare reporting packs and variance analysis
  • Oversee completion of balance sheet reconciliations, and review reconciliation quality and supporting evidence
  • Monitor aged items and risk areas, escalating where required
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including evidence and responses, and tracking progress
  • Perform first-line financial control checks and support control improvements
  • Research new standards and prepare technical briefing papers
  • Coordinate year-end close and support statutory reporting
  • Prepare working papers, disclosures, and audit schedules
  • Support improvements to capitalisation processes and documentation

What You’ll Need

  • Part or fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial controls
  • Experience of month-end close, reconciliations, and audit support
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
