Lucy Electric is committed to designing and delivering smart customer solutions to enable and enhance intelligent electricity distribution networks. As part of the strong drive for greater decarbonisation and digitalisation of energy networks, considerable public and private investment is forecast into smart grids over the foreseeable future. Lucy Electric is expanding its smart grid capabilities and solutions across all of its major markets to enable this transformation.
To help achieve this, we are looking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Manager who will work alongside the marketing and commercial teams at Lucy Electric and customers to develop and implement a sector business strategy to deliver high levels of profitable sales and position Lucy Electric as the preferred digital solutions provider in the electricity distribution market.
This role involves proactively identifying and prioritising target market opportunities and customers, understanding their challenges, supporting regional sales teams to secure orders to meet the sales budget for the customer base, and driving business growth.
Account ownership is with the regional sales teams.

Lucy Electric is an international leader in intelligent secondary power distribution products and solutions, with features such as remote operation and monitoring. Linking energy generation to consumption, the business specialises in high-performance medium and low-voltage switchgear for utility, industrial and commercial applications.
Job Context:
There is substantial growth forecast for smart infrastructure related to the decentralisation, decarbonisation and digitalisation of energy networks across the world. Lucy Electric (along with Lucy Group as a whole) is very well placed to seize this opportunity and deliver world leading smart solutions in defined sectors for customers and stakeholders across all of its markets. We have a vision to significantly grow this business area going forward and this role will play a key part in realising this revenue growth.

Job Dimensions:
- Report to the Digital Solutions Director
- Be the customer facing subject matter expert for Digital Solutions
- Work with the Marketing, Innovation, Sales, Product and Commercial teams in Lucy Electric to develop and increase demand for Digital Solutions.
- Work with the regional Sales teams to understand customer challenges, develop and progress solutions through to orders
- Work closely with the Innovation team to identify future opportunities for customers
Account Management & Winning Business:
- Research, investigate, and identify potential new areas for business development and growth in relation to new and existing products and solutions.
- Obtain appropriate customer requirements, specifications or approvals for digital solutions.
- In conjunction with the regional sales teams
- Identify target customers and markets for digital solutions
- Scope solutions against specific sales opportunities with those customers
- Assist with the preparation of budget pricing information, proposals, quotations and tenders
- Progress solutions through to sales
- Facilitate upskilling of the Sales and Commercial teams to promote and sell digital solutions.
- Contribute to the Digital Solutions development strategy and product roadmaps.
- Participate in regular performance discussions throughout the year.
- Conduct reviews with internal teams to build effective communications, understand training and development needs, and provide insights for improving company sales and activity performance.
- Assimilate views and information on digital solutions market, customer trends, and requirements, reporting data back to the business.
- Keep abreast of product developments and competitor activities.
- Engage with industry associations and regulatory bodies.
- Support the marketing function by implementing sector-specific marketing communications strategies.
- Create and maintain competitor profiles and understand their impact on customer relationships.
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (particularly electrical, electronic, software or power systems) or a related field; master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of business development experience in digital solutions sector.
- Detailed knowledge of power distribution market and automation systems.
- Computer literacy with excellent command of MS Office.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.

- Strong work orientation, taking ownership to deliver on time, every time.
