Job Description

Section 1: job summary

The role is responsible for the day to day supervision and coordination of processes and assignments for the asset reliability function which comprises the maintenance and calibration team and supports organizational objectives and business goals by maintaining and repairing Make assets including equipment used in production processes. The role implements project terms to meet objectives and goals of the asset reliability team and ensures the reliability and performance of the organization's equipment capital investments. The role ensures compliance of repair processes and maintenance programs with safety regulations and serves as a primary point of contact for team members.

The role holder will benchmark the high-level vision, key initiatives, and subsequent asset improvement and team development plans including key performance measures, objectives, and goals. The role will engage cross-functional teams including the wider engineering team, production, quality and supply, to ensure supply chain engineering deliverables meet customer-specific needs and expectations.

Section 2: duties & responsibilities

 Embeds Quality First, Safety Always Culture

 Works with Line Manager to develop and implement strategic asset reliability and maintenance engineering

goals & objectives.

 Supports the implementation of asset reliability, capital investment and plant strategic initiatives.

 Assists with coordination of processes and assignments for asset reliability, maintenance engineering and

asset calibration activities to ensure the delivery of consistent maintenance programs and engineering

repair projects.

 Leads the implementation of preventive maintenance programs, equipment repairs, equipment calibration and maintenance engineering projects that contribute to the optimization and increased productivity of the organization’s manufacturing facilities and equipment.

 Devises risk assessments and provides input regarding the integration and utilization of new equipment and machinery by conducting engineering reviews of proposed equipment to assess reliability, maintenance costs, calibration activities and identifying unknown safety risks.

 Responsible for managing operational aspects of their team (e.g., workflow, performance, and compliance), as well as ensuring achievement of team goals within expected standards and agreed

timelines.

 Maintains steady workflow and productivity and resolves operational decisions within the team.

Supply

 Support day to day operations through attendance at Value Stream daily meetings and the timely closure of actions across the team.

 Evaluates performance of production stages to determine process engineering faults, equipment failures, and compliance risks in order to provide insight in the design of optimized production sequences and manufacturing operations.

 Understands and applies Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives in day-to-day interactions with team.

 Works as a strategic partner with other departments to develop MedTech as a Best-in-Class orthopaedics plant and a flagship company within J&J.

 Provides leadership within the Engineering and Technical Services functions that will deliver superior business results in-line with objectives.

 Designs programs and parameters for asset reliability function including project estimates for design, repair or replacement of equipment, installation, labour, materials, and other related costs.

 Is responsible for leading, directing and prioritizing technical knowledge and resource to support the asset reliability team, including sharing of best practice across the wider engineering team in the UK and across other Joints sites.

 Contributes to the communication of policies and procedures to ensure all team members comply with supply chain engineering standard operating procedures as well as federal, state, and local government regulations.

Cost

 Manages the engineering budget for the areas of responsibility (maintenance and calibration).

 Provide updates to management on a weekly and monthly basis in relation to financial performance in the areas of maintenance and consumables spend vs budget.

 Provide timely and accurate reporting on project activities ensuring projects within the area of responsibility (asset reliability including capital replacement or repair projects) are delivered to agreed timelines and budget.

People

 Supervises individuals within the team and is accountable for conducting effective performance management of team members.

 Identify training needs of staff and opportunities for development to maximize their potential.

 Demonstrate strong leadership and a clear identifiable work ethos within the maintenance and calibration team.

 Develop and maintain a Credo & Behavioural Standards based culture within the team.

 Provide continuous support and mentoring to the team members.

 Management of the maintenance team to include resource planning, training and development pportunities.

Technical Operations – MAM & E2E Strategic

 Actively participate in and/or lead Joints Network Engineering and Technical Services initiatives.

 Integrate Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision making.

 Support Capacity Increase projects to ensure design for manufacture and/or value.

 Ensure all equipment/machines are maintained to factory standard and uptime is optimized.

 Ensure all risks associated with the introduction of new equipment, products and or processes are tigated.

 Lead specific improvement initiatives to drive increased efficiency and reduced costs in the business

 Support attainment of key business metrics through the provision of maintenance support for value stream processes.

 Provide timely and accurate reporting on downtime, budget and projects as well as Root Cause Analysis and implementation of robust solutions to issues.

 Manage the execution of the Preventative Maintenance program for the assigned value streams.

 Ensure the facility is maintained at a high level in terms of utilities, plant and equipment, replacing obsolete or inefficient plant and equipment where necessary.

 Provide other duties to support the function and business as required.

Quality and Compliance Related Responsibilities

 Provide timely response to customer complaints, technical enquiries, non conformities & CAPA’s that relate to product performance.

 Provide support to the team in Root Cause Analysis related to asset reliability activities as they arise through tools such as 8D/A3 and Six Sigma.

 Ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with all regulations and laws governing business and quality operations.

 Ensure compliance with all local, national, international and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.

 Ensure that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable

 Communicate business related issues or opportunities to next management level

 Audit and escalate any non-conformance issues in the manufacturing areas, for subsequent corrective action identification and resolution.

 Ensure personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures

 Perform other duties assigned as needed.

Section 3: experience and education

Essential

 Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline, with 4-5 years’ experience in a

Maintenance/Operations/Engineering role within a large fast paced company.

 Experience of process engineering, project management and asset reliability management.

 Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to make effective decisions.

 Demonstrated ability to understand technical issues and provide practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.

 Data driven decision making including working with Key Performance Metrics to drive proactive improvements.

 Previous people management experience including performance management.

Desirable

 Previous exposure of working within the medical devices or other regulated manufacturing industry.

 Technical experience in furnace/poro-coat process, CNC machining, calibration, clean room environment and packaging processes (for Leeds role) OR Experience of automated and semi-automated production processes, powder mill and blend, liquid blend and fill, clean room environment and packaging processes (for Blackpool role).

 Demonstrable financial acumen.

 Experience in regulated industry, FDA, MDR, ISO, etc.

 Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, Statistical Engineering or Structured Problem-Solving Techniques.

 Manage, develop and lead departmental staff in a manner that will facilitate employee development, identifying training needs, stretch assignments and opportunities for development.

 Create and maintain an environment of Continuous Improvement, focusing on quality, cost reduction, equipment reliability, process development and supply.

 Flexible, adaptable and willing to learn and develop self and others.
