Assistant management accountant - 12 month interim role - Gloucester

Hays are pleased to be working with a leading engineering company based in Gloucester. This multi national business is looking for an interim Assistant management accountant to join their team for a 12 month period to support a maternity cover. Your new role


  • Maintaining the fixed assets register and posting depreciation on a monthly basis and reconciliation of balances.
  • Reconciling bank accounts for foreign offices (China, Malaysia, Japan and Korea), posting accruals and prepayments and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Posting of advance payments journals for purchase invoices and sales invoices.
  • Updating holiday and overtime totals, calculating holiday pay for payroll and posting journals for holiday pay and holiday provisions.
  • Updating commission schedules and transaction listings monthly.
  • Reconciliation of sub-contractors stock and posting monthly journals.
  • Posting month end invoice accruals and updating accruals and prepayments schedules.
  • Preparation of monthly VAT returns, reconciliation of VAT control accounts and submission of VAT return.
  • Updating monthly inter-company template balances for UK entities.
  • Recording all transactions on journal vouchers with associated back up and filing accordingly in preparation for year end audit.
  • Raising invoices for monthly recharges for inter-company and other companies and reconciling recharge account balances.
  • Support for the sales and purchase ledger functions.
  • Other ad-hoc tasks as required in the course of the business.
  • Supporting the Credit Controller and Purchase Ledger clerk

What you'll need to succeed

Education and/or Experience:
Level 4 AAT or QBE. Engineering/Manufacturing background preferable.

Sound awareness and understanding of financial and accounting principles and reporting. Strong technical accounting knowledge, and strong double entry knowledge.

Computer Skills:
Experience with all Microsoft Packages. Excellent Excel skills. Ideally familiar with an ERP system and understanding of stock movements and reconciliations.

Project Management:
Develops project plans; coordinates projects; communicates changes and progress; completes projects on time and budget; manages project team activities.
