Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is offering the rare opportunity to combine a rewarding job in oncology with an unrivalled lifestyle in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas of the country. We are looking to recruit substantive Consultant Oncologists to join our team!



The successful applicants will be joining a committed and friendly team of 7 Clinical (including 3 visiting colleagues from Exeter) and 3 Medical Oncologists. These posts are to cover upcoming workforce changes and we are fortunate to be able to offer opportunities for both Medical and Clinical Oncologists. We are keen to attract colleagues with an interest in Gynaecology, Skin, Urology, UGI, Breast, Brain and Lymphoma RT.



There is a generous relocation package available. We welcome applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time or who wish to explore combining a clinical job with educational or research interests.



Applicants are required to be on the GMCs Specialist Register with a license to practice or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.



We are flexible to accommodate many sub specialisms within Clinical and Medical Oncology. Our priority areas for recruitment are:



  • Clinical Oncology – Gynaecology, Skin, Breast, Brain and Lymphoma

  • Medical Oncology – Urology and UGI

Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment is administered in all of these sites.

South Devon is an area of exceptional natural beauty, with outstanding opportunities for both dry-land and water-based activities, and has a very mild climate. Torbay is known as the English Riviera and boasts award-winning beaches and a stunning coastline. Schools in the area are excellent in both state and private sector, with a selective grammar school system.



The trust is in the process of significant investment into oncology services, with service redesign to support a robust and resilient service moving forwards. The oncology department at Torbay Hospital is concentrated on one site and boasts 2 new linear accelerators, a chemotherapy day unit with a sea view, and a team of experienced cancer nurse specialists with independent clinics. We have a successful cancer clinical trials team with a varied commercial and non-commercial portfolio.



We aim to work with you to create a job plan that suits your interests, expertise and ambitions. We are also encouraging a more flexible approach to job planning for those who wish to work their week in a different way to suit their work-life balance.



The new post-holder is expected to be accredited or within 6-months of accreditation at the date of the interview.



The post-holder would be expected and encouraged to work with the existing oncologists to contribute to research, clinical governance, audit, training of junior staff and medical students and undertake CME/CPD according to the requirements of their College. There is currently no requirement for an on-call oncology consultant service at Torbay and out of hours support is provided by the Royal Devon University Healthcare Foundation Trust oncology on call service however, this is subject to change in the future.
