The role of a Welcome and Service Assistant Manager with the National Trust is to uphold the highest of standards in the service we give to visitors. If you’re a natural motivator, who likes to lead by example to make sure every single person feels welcome and has their best day possible, then this could be the job for you.

You'll assist managing a team of staff and volunteers, so would need to be willing and able to work one in three weekends and bank holidays to ensure full cover.

Salary: £19,328.40 pro rata (FTE £27,612 per annum)

Contract: Permanent

Hours/working pattern: Part-time , 26.25 hours a week. This operates on a three day-four day weekly pattern. You will be required to work one in three weekends.

What it's like to work here:At the heart of a sprawling 270-acre parkland is a 17th century stately home, known as Dyrham Park. Open 363 days of the year, we welcome visitors with positivity and enthusiasm for our estate. Our reception building is situated at the top of the sloping parklands and is the first and last place our visitors see.

Reporting to the Welcome Manager, you’d be one of two Assistant Welcome Managers. Our team consists of eight Welcome and Service Team Members, and approx. 55 volunteers which you will supervise.


What you'll be doing:You'll support your team to make sure that the welcome every person receives when they come to visit is as good as it could be. You want them to have the best experience of visiting Dyrham Park. Everyone who comes here is contributing to the work of the Trust, in protecting and looking after places so that people and nature can thrive – now and into the future. You’ll be able to lead the team, demonstrating excellent service and sales.

You'll also be raising funds and encouraging people to join the Trust as members, always aware of how crucial these goals are to the Trust’s cause. By sharing your knowledge of our conservation work both here and throughout the Trust, you’ll help people to see how vital their contribution can be. This is a versatile role; you’ll be working actively in the reception building, as well as office work. You’ll assist with the management of our three mobility shuttles; supporting our volunteer drivers day-to-day, actioning maintenance, and ensuring a high-quality and consistent bus service.

Additionally, you'll work alongside our Visitor Experience and Retail teams to grow support via. donations, increasing accessibility, and maintaining our operational standards.

  • experienced in visitor services, in the tourist or heritage sector
  • naturally curious about people, with an understanding of how to achieve the highest standards of customer service
  • able to work to sales targets, and confidently sell the benefits of becoming a member
  • well-organised and motivated
  • willing to learn new skills, with a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • comfortable with IT skills (all MS Office)
