The Nelson Trust is a charity dedicated to supporting people affected by addiction and trauma to build safer, more stable futures. Within our residential women’s service in Stroud, we offer trauma-informed care in a structured, supportive environment where recovery can begin and lives can be rebuilt.

Our approach is shaped by years of experience and colleagues with lived experience, creating a culture grounded in empathy and real insight, enabling us to support both practical needs and lasting recovery.

We are looking for a Weekend Recovery Support Worker to join our team, supporting women in residential treatment and helping to maintain a safe, calm and supportive environment across weekend hours.

What does that look like day to day?

Supporting recovery at the weekend means creating a relaxed but structured environment, including:

  • Being a consistent and reassuring presence, helping clients feel safe and supported throughout the day
  • Encouraging engagement in weekend activities, groups and recovery-focused work
  • Supporting everyday needs, from wellbeing to practical tasks such as medication and appointments

Weekend working requires reliability, independence and a supportive approach. We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Ability to work a fixed weekend rota (8am–4:30pm), providing consistency when clients need it most
  • A full driving licence and willingness to transport clients when required
  • The ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
  • Understanding of addiction, trauma or working with people experiencing adversity
  • A calm, steady approach, with the confidence to respond thoughtfully to challenges
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn and develop

What our clients need most

  • A calm, approachable and reliable presence during weekends
  • A non-judgemental outlook and belief in their ability to recover

How we support you

We recognise the importance of weekend roles in maintaining consistent care, and we are committed to supporting you as part of the team.

  • Salary: £25,000 - £26,500 (pro rata depending on experience)
  • Hours: 16 per week (8am–4:30pm, alternate weekends)
  • Pension: 6% employer contribution
  • Training, supervision and opportunities to develop
  • Access to wellbeing and employee assistance support
  • Blue Light Card discounts
  • Refer a Friend scheme

This role will close once a suitable candidate has been appointed. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
