Web Development Internship - #187767
Blue Oak Consulting
Date: 4 weeks ago
City: Manchester
Contract type: Full time
Remote
Many leadership teams base their most significant decisions on reports that prioritize form over substance. At Blue Oak Consulting, we help clients strip away those distractions to look at the actual economics of their business. We are looking for a Web Development Internship candidate to help us build the tools that make these clear financial realities visible and easy to understand. Success in this position means helping our clients move past strategy talk and into the realm of data-backed decision making.
About Blue Oak
Blue Oak Consulting provides commercial advice for situations where the answer is not obvious. We are skeptical by nature. Our team looks at pricing architectures, capital allocation, and fixed cost structures to find where value is leaking or where capital is trapped. We believe that most commercial questions arrive wrapped in language that obscures the real choices. Our job is to surface what the numbers are hiding and test whether assumptions actually hold under pressure. We do not just deliver slide decks and walk away. We help clients understand the downside risks and help them make choices that make sense even if the base case fails. Whether we are looking at unit economics or manufacturing capacity, we focus on the variables that actually drive the outcome. We are a fully remote firm that values clear thinking and plain speaking over corporate jargon.
The role
In this position, you will support our core team by building and maintaining frontend tools that visualize intricate business data. This work is not about making things look pretty for the sake of decoration. Instead, you will be creating functional interfaces that help our clients interact with their own unit economics in real time. You will work closely with our strategy analysts to translate complex spreadsheet models into clean, responsive web applications. This is a full-time, permanent position designed for someone starting their technical career who wants to see how code can directly influence high-level business logic. You will be responsible for ensuring that the data we present is accurate and that the user experience is intentionally simple.
What you will do
We do not expect you to be a seasoned expert, but we do need you to have a solid grasp of the fundamentals. You should be comfortable with HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript. If you have done some work with frameworks like React or Vue (perhaps through personal projects or coursework), that will be helpful. We value people who are curious about how businesses actually work and how money moves through a system. You should have a preference for clarity and a habit of double-checking your logic before you commit a change. It is helpful if you can explain technical constraints to people who might not have a background in coding. Because we are a remote company, you need to be a disciplined communicator who can manage your own schedule and meet deadlines without constant supervision.
What the role offers
This is a fully remote role where you will have direct access to the senior leadership team. You will spend your day working on real problems that affect large businesses rather than hypothetical exercises. We offer a permanent contract because we want to invest in your long-term growth as a developer. You will receive mentorship from experienced professionals who prioritize rigor over speed. Since we are a remote firm, you will have flexibility in your routine as long as the work meets our quality standards. Our environment is one of mutual respect where the best argument wins, regardless of seniority. You will be part of a team that values your technical input just as much as your ability to think through an economic problem.
Who tends to do well here are those who value truth over momentum. We look for people who are not afraid to ask why a certain metric matters or to point out when an interface makes something more confusing than it needs to be. If you enjoy solving logical puzzles and want to see the direct impact of your code on business strategy, you will likely find this a rewarding place to start your career. We appreciate people who take their work seriously but speak plainly about it.

- Develop and refine responsive components using modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Collaborate with our strategy team to understand how our clients use data and where current interfaces are failing them.
- Translate static financial models into interactive dashboards that allow for scenario testing.
- Write clean, documented code that follows our standards for performance and readability.
- Identify bugs or logic errors in existing tools and implement immediate fixes.
- Participate in peer code reviews to learn best practices in frontend architecture.
- Help simplify complex user flows so that our clients can reach conclusions without unnecessary friction.
