Volunteer Trustees to help guide national civic charity into a new chapter | Civic Voice - #148275
Civic Voice
Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Dorchester
Contract type: Full time
Remote

We work to engage communities in 'making places better - together'. As the charity enters an exciting new chapter, we are seeking additional board trustees with specific backgrounds and skills.
What difference will you make?
Too often, the built environment fails to take into account the real needs of a community, its families, individuals and the natural ecosystems systems on which society depends for survival. As the national body for locally-led civic societies in England, Civic Voice seeks to support their impact and growth, building local pride, promoting better design, and growing community engagement and involvement, especially from under-represented sectors. On behalf of its members, Civic Voice also seeks to engage decision-makers at regional and national level in pursuit of better places.
What are we looking for?
Following a skills audit of our current board, we are now especially looking for new trustees with any of the following skills and experiences - Top priorities Business continuity and risk management Charity law and regulation Company law and regulation Also important Legal expertise, especially as it relates to charities Cyber protection Data protection Conflict management and resolution Policy and procedure development Safeguarding It would be useful to have Business management Campaigning, influencing and advocacy Marketing and communications Change management Strategic or business planning Financial management and accounting (to support a new treasurer for whom we are also recruiting) We would especially welcome applications from underrepresented groups including women, young people and ethnic minorities, to ensure that our decision making takes all needs into account through lived experience.
What will you be doing?
After a challenging period, and now with a new CEO, Civic Voice is rapidly fixing its foundations and beginning to work on an exciting new vision for 'making places better - together', re-engaging with local civic societies and communities across England. Having undertaken a skills audit of our current board, and with several vacancies, we are looking for new trustees with specific skill sets and backgrounds. We would especially welcome applications from less well represented groups who could strengthen our board and improve our understanding of how individuals and communities experience the built environment, including women, people from ethnic minorities, and younger people. This will underpin our ambition to see hundreds of local, volunteer-led civic societies in England grow in strength and impact. Our member societies are engaged in areas including managing heritage buildings, community engagement on planning decisions, transport, parks and open spaces, street design, blue plaques, tourism and much more. As a trustee, you will help our new CEO to develop a strategy to improve our engagement at national and regional level, build a more powerful member support programme to enable local societies to grow, and secure the funding and resources to underpin our plans. It is an exciting time to get involved.
