At Grand Avenue Primary and Nursery School, our co-opted governor plays an important role in ensuring that every pound is spent wisely in support of our school improvement plan. We are looking for an individual with practical finance experience who is keen to contribute to our community—even if you don’t tick every single box. What You’ll Bring Finance Experience A background in budgeting, financial planning, or resource management is highly valued. We understand that you may not be an expert in every aspect of school governance, but your practical experience in managing finances will be a major asset. Analytical Insight Your ability to review budgets, monitor expenditure, and interpret financial data will help support effective decision-making. A willingness to learn new methods and tools is just as important as any current expertise. Collaborative Spirit You will work closely with the headteacher, business manager, and fellow governors. While prior governance experience is useful, your open-mindedness and readiness to work as part of a diverse team are equally important. Key Qualities Integrity & Accountability A strong commitment to transparency and high ethical standards will ensure that resources are managed responsibly. What will you be doing?

Grand Avenue Primary is dedicated to providing a quality education for every child. We face the ongoing challenge of managing our resources wisely while supporting our ambitious school improvement plan. As a co-opted governor on the R&F committee, you will Review and monitor budgets Work closely with our school business manager and headteacher to ensure that funds are allocated efficiently. Provide financial oversight Use your experience to scrutinise expenditure and challenge current practices where necessary. Contribute to strategic planning Help shape financial policies and long-term resource strategies that underpin our school’s success. Collaborate with a committed team Be part of a diverse board that values transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. While finance experience is highly valued, enthusiasm and a willingness to engage with the school’s strategic priorities are key.
