Trustee to help source core funding - Volunteer - #188274
East Dunbartonshire Befriending Service
Date: 6 days ago
City: Kirkintilloch
Contract type: Full time
We are a small Scottish charity which provides befriending services in East Dunbartonshire. We seek a trustee who will help us source core funding as the funds provided by the Health and Care Partnership are insufficient for our needs. We successfully source funding for projects.
What difference will you make?
What difference will you make?
All the difference in the world! Many of our Befriendees (and family members) tell us that the services we provide are life changing. By helping us source the funding we need, you can help ensure that we are able to continue to challenge loneliness and isolation here in East Dunbartonshire and enable our Befriendees to lead more positive and fulfilled lives. Statistics tell us that this is a type of early intervention which can enable older people to stay healthier (both physically and mentally) and remain independent into older age. The need for our Befriending Service increases year on year but sadly the available funding does not.

East Dunbartonshire Befriending Service (EDBS) is a small Scottish charity (Charity no. SC051503) with a very big heart! Although our charity was only registered in January 2022, Befriending in East Dunbartonshire has been around for over 25 years. Please take a look at our website which will give you a better idea of the services we offer – all free of charge to the end users https //edbs.org.uk/ - and do read the testimonials!
We are currently funded by the HSCP (Health and Social Care Partnership) via East Dunbartonshire Council and for some years now our funding has either been reduced or not increased. We have now come to the point where the funding we receive doesn’t even fully cover our employees’ salaries.
Our Service Manager and her assistant have done a brilliant job up to now rising funds for the events and special projects we run but despite this we are now running at a loss each year. This trustee opportunity seeks a person with funding expertise to help us obtain the core funding we are going to need if our Befriending Service is to survive. We have a few years’ financial cushion thanks to a generous legacy left to us some years ago but we feel we need to tackle this head on as it will not be a short-term process. If would be great if we could locate someone in the west of Scotland but fortunately we have the technology to communicate and work with someone remotely.
