Trainee Clinical Endoscopist - #139597

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

Date: 4 days ago
City: Leicester
Contract type: Full time
An exciting training opportunity has arisen for a motivated practitioner to join our Nurse Endoscopist team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

This is a trainee Band 6 post where there is an opportunity for a Specialist Clinical Endoscopist to undertake Master’s level training and competency based assessment to enable them to function as a Band 7 Clinical Endoscopist on successful completion of a JAG accredited endoscopy training course.

You should have extensive experience in endoscopy/gastroenterology and training will be provided to complete the necessary qualifications to become a JAG accredited Clinical Endoscopist. The role of the Clinical Endoscopist provides the opportunity for a motivated individual to enhance and develop their knowledge and endoscopy skills, with full support from the wider team.

You will be working across our busy endoscopy units, both within the Trust Hospitals and the UHL in the Community Hospitals and, once working independently, will expected to work a flexible shift pattern to cover weekdays, some weekends and evening lists.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic practitioner to join our Clinical Endoscopist Team. You will be an autonomous independent practitioner at the forefront of their speciality and profession, which will be used as the basis for original thinking, providing senior clinical expertise, excellence, leadership and development.

You will eventually manage your own caseload of patients undertaking gastroscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy/colonoscopy procedures to a JAG accredited standard depending on the needs of the service. The post holder will be expected to undertake the NHS England Clinical Endoscopist Training Programme (Level 6 or 7) and potential applicants are strongly advised to research what is to be undertaken.

The role will provide support, expert advice, information, coaching, supervision, education and management to other staff as well as within the wider corporate and multi-disciplinary teams. The post holder will act as an excellent clinical role model and work continuously to improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework, assisting in aspects of audit in relation to both local and national criteria set of the development of Endoscopy Units including JAG and GRS requirements.

We offer a bespoke training package with a view to the successful applicant being a fully trained Clinical Endoscopist (including Independent Prescribing module) and all endoscopy modalities within a 5 year period.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We Have Four Primary Goals

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
