Teaching Clinical Fellow - #59673

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust

Date: 2 weeks ago
City: Liverpool
Salary: £55,329 per year
Contract type: Full time
The post is an appointment for 12-month fixed term post as a Teaching Clinical Fellow in Paediatric ENT at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

This post has been established to enhance the teaching of medical students in the Trust and the University of Liverpool School of Medicine. There is an Undergraduate Co-Ordinator based at the Trust who is able to support the organisation of teaching within the Trust.

As one of Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospitals, at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, we treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions. In addition to our main hospital site, we offer paediatric services at a number of community sites and hold local clinics across Merseyside, Cumbria, Shropshire, Wales and the Isle of Man. We also provide specialist inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs in our recently relocated and newly opened state of the art facility.

Alder Hey has a thriving research portfolio and leads research into children’s medicines, infection, inflammation and oncology. We are becoming recognised as one of the world’s leaders in children’s healthcare and research. We contribute to public health, lead cutting-edge research and teach the next generation of children’s specialists. Alongside this is our Innovation Hub, a dedicated space where clinicians and industries can come together to create new products and technologies.

We know that a children’s hospital is different and that our job is more than just treating an illness. To us, every child is an individual. As well as giving them the very best care, we set out to make them feel happy, safe and confident as they play, learn and grow. At Alder Hey we are here to look after a child and their family and that includes mums, dads, brothers and sisters.

The majority of the post holder’s time will be spent on clinical work with the remainder of the week used for teaching undergraduates attending Alder Hey Hospital from the University of Liverpool. The post holder will be encouraged to complete a research project during the post. A draft timetable is available on request.

The post holder will teach and co-ordinate students to ensure that students are able to achieve their learning objectives. There will be close liaison with the Undergraduate Co-Ordinator in the Trust. The on call is 1 in 7 non-resident covering ENT Surgery at Alder Hey Hospital and the Royal Liverpool Hospital at middle grade level.

This post is ideal for someone who is interested in or wants to have a career in medical education and academic medicine. It would provide useful experience prior to undertaking a period of research or applying for a more senior post.
