The role

As a Senior Process Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role at the heart of the UK’s defence infrastructure, supporting essential engineering activity that safeguards the capability, safety and performance of nuclear plant and equipment across Devonport’s Nuclear Licensed Site and the Ministry of Defence’s Authorised Site.


Day-to-day, you’ll lead critical process design projects across all engineering design phases, applying your expertise to ensure systems, equipment and infrastructure remain safe, reliable and aligned with rigorous regulatory requirements.


  • Lead the development and delivery of process designs across all design phases, from concept to implementation.
  • Manage the production, checking and approval of technical documentation, drawings and engineering reports.
  • Undertake engineering analyses, including calculations, component structural assessments and system fluid‑flow modelling.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear site licence conditions, statutory requirements and engineering codes and standards.
  • Provide through‑life engineering support for nuclear process systems and collaborate with engineers across chemical, process and mechanical disciplines.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 - 3 days in the office/onsite.


Essential experience of the Senior Process Engineer

  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation and maintenance of pressure and pipework systems.
  • Knowledge of the engineering design lifecycle and technical documentation controls.
  • Experience in project specification, planning and budgeting.
  • Technical capability in at least one of the following: pressure systems, component engineering simulation, nuclear plant design, CAD, or fluid‑flow analysis.
  • Familiarity with engineering codes, standards and legislation in a regulated industry.
  • Experience gained in nuclear, defence, oil and gas, utilities or other pressure‑systems industries - Desirable

Qualifications for the Senior Process Engineer

  • Minimum HND, FdSc, FdEng or equivalent qualification in mechanical, process or chemical engineering.
  • Professional registration or working toward it (e.g., IEng/CEng) - Desirable

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
