We are seeking a skilled Planning and Project Controls Engineer with strong experience in electrical infrastructure to join a leading Energy & Power Contractor. You will play a key role in supporting the planning, scheduling, and control of major transmission, distribution, and power‑sector projects across the UK.
As a Planning and Project Controls Engineer, you will support project teams in developing, maintaining, and monitoring schedules, cost controls, and risk processes for complex electrical and power‑engineering schemes. You will work closely with Senior Planners, Project Managers, engineering leads and commercial teams to ensure accurate reporting, effective forecasting, and informed decision‑making that drives successful project delivery across substations, overhead lines, cable routes, and wider energy‑transition programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support planning and scheduling for major electrical infrastructure projects, including substations, HV/LV systems, OHL, cable installations, and grid‑connection works.
- Develop and maintain project schedules in Primavera P6, ensuring compliance with NEC contract planning requirements.
- Assist with baseline programme development (Clause 31) and regular programme updates (Clause 32).
- Support early warning processes (Clause 60) and compensation event assessments (Clauses 61 & 62).
- Monitor project performance, producing accurate progress reports, dashboards, and forecasts for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in identifying risks, delays, interfaces, and opportunities across electrical and civil workstreams, contributing to mitigation strategies.
- Maintain project controls documentation, including schedules, progress records, earned value data, and reporting packs.
- Provide technical support to project teams on planning, project controls, and programme governance.
- Contribute to the mentoring and development of junior planners and project controls staff.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related discipline.
- Experience in planning, project controls, or scheduling within the power, utilities, transmission, distribution, or major energy‑infrastructure sectors.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and familiarity with NEC contract planning functions.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction methodologies, HV/LV installation sequencing, outages, commissioning phases, and grid‑connection processes.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
