Job Overview

This position will allow the successful applicant to develop the necessary attributes to fulfil a leading role within medical education in the future while maintaining a regular commitment to clinical practice.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Develop knowledge, skills and experience in teaching and training
  • Gain experience in the assessment of learning and peer review of teaching
  • Gain experience of supervising and mentoring junior clinical colleagues with a commitment to medical education (e.g. academic foundation year doctors)
  • Contribute to the development of novel local teaching programmes
  • Contribute the organisation and delivery of the local widening access to medicine programme
  • Fulfil the requirements needed for an educational qualification (e.g. Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Medical Education) and/ or to meet the Professional Standards Framework for teaching and supporting learning in higher education (FHEA)
  • Maintain clinical practice in a relevant specialty

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • MB ChB MRCP/ equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Specialty qualification (Primary FRCA, MRCEM, MRCP or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Minimum of one year of post-foundation programme clinical practice

Desirable criteria

  • Completion of core training in anaesthetics, acute care common stem, or equivalent
  • Post-graduate experience in critical care (minimum 3 months)

Essential Criteria

Basic Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal
  • Effective organisational skills and good multitasking ability
  • Problem solving capabilities
  • Accurate record-keeping, attention to detail
  • Computer literate

Desirable criteria

  • Experience or knowledge of the principles of Good Clinical Practice in Research (GCP)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent presentation skills

Other Requirements

Essential criteria

  • Enthusiasm for teaching

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrate experience in teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level
