Senior HR Advisor


£37,938 to £42,708 per annum (pro rata)


30 hours per week


Fixed term until July 2027


We’re looking for an experienced, CIPD-qualified HR professional to join our small, supportive team as a Senior HR Advisor. Based at Muriel Matters House, you’ll provide expert HR advice and guidance to managers and services across the council, helping us deliver fair, inclusive and effective people management.


This is a varied and rewarding role covering all areas of HR, including employee relations casework, absence management, job evaluation, organisational change, and TUPE. You'll partner closely with service areas, supporting them to apply employment law, best practice and council policies confidently and consistently.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Advising on complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance and performance cases
  • Supporting and delivering restructures, TUPE transfers and other organisational change projects
  • Coaching and guiding managers to strengthen HR knowledge and capability
  • Supporting on sickness absence management, job design, and evaluation processes
  • Working collaboratively with trade unions and supporting policy development
  • Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in all HR practices
  • Contributing to workforce planning, employee wellbeing and engagement initiatives


What we’re looking for:


  • CIPD Level 7 qualification (or equivalent experience) and evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Substantial HR advisory experience, ideally in local government or the public sector
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law, job evaluation and HR best practice
  • Confident communicator who can explain complex issues clearly and practically
  • Ability to balance priorities, remain professional under pressure, and build positive relationships with colleagues and partners
  • Commitment to fairness, inclusion, and excellent customer-focused HR support
