Description

At CMS2, we specialise in the design and manufacture of atmospheric control systems for the defence industry. We are experts in enabling high availability atmosphere management systems to generate breathable air for submariners, allowing boats to remain underwater for long periods of time. We do this by combining over sixty years of expertise with the latest technology and processes to design, build and support high quality systems and solutions. CMS2 is part of a wider group (Science Group). Science Group is a science & technology business providing consultancy and systems to an international client base.

The Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing goods and services that meet the organisation's needs in terms of quality, cost, and delivery. This role involves strategic sourcing, supplier management, supplier relationships, and negotiation to drive cost savings and improve supply chain efficiency ensuring the organisation has the goods and services it needs to operate effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing:
Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to meet business needs. Conduct market research to identify new suppliers and opportunities. Analyse spend data to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Supplier Management:
Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable supply and quality. Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and service criteria. Manage supplier performance and address any issues.

Negotiation and Contract Management:
Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to achieve best value. Manage contracts and ensure compliance with terms and conditions. Develop and implement contract management processes.

Cost Savings and Efficiency:
Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements. Implement cost-saving initiatives and track results. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive savings.

Inventory Management:
Work with inventory management teams to ensure optimal inventory levels. Balance inventory costs with service level requirements.

Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, such as supplier insolvency or capacity issues. Develop contingency plans to ensure business continuity.

Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with internal stakeholders, such as engineering, production, and logistics. Communicate effectively with suppliers and internal teams.

Data Analysis and Reporting:
Analyse data on spend, supplier performance, and market trends. Prepare reports and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Procurement, Business, or a related field.
Equivalent Apprenticeship Scheme Qualifications will be considered

Experience: Substantial previous experience in procurement or supply chain management, with a focus on strategic sourcing and supplier management.

Skills:
Strong negotiation and communication skills, ability to analyse data and make strategic decisions. Excellent problem-solving and risk management skills and proficiency in procurement software and tools.

Certifications:
Procurement or Supply Chain Management*, such as CIPS, CPIM, CSCP, or CPM, are preferred.

Soft Skills:
Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement strategic sourcing plans.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions.
Communication: Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

Other requirements
  • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK
  • Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. To gain SC clearance will normally require a candidate to have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
