The Opportunity
As our Buildings business continues to grow across the UK, we are seeking an exceptional Buildings Lead for the Northeast to drive the next phase of our expansion. This is a strategic leadership role for an ambitious engineering leader who combines technical excellence, commercial acumen, and a passion for developing high-performing teams.
You will lead one of the UK's most important regional markets, shaping strategy, growing client relationships, winning major projects, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex multidisciplinary engineering solutions across sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, defence, higher education and data centres.

As Buildings Lead, you will provide strategic direction and operational leadership for our Northeast Buildings business, ensuring sustainable growth, technical excellence and exceptional client outcomes.
You will act as the senior representative for the region, building trusted relationships with key clients, partners and stakeholders while creating an environment where our people can thrive.

Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the regional Buildings growth strategy for the northeast.
- Identify emerging market opportunities and position Stantec to capture key programmes and frameworks.
- Contribute to the development of the national Buildings business strategy.
- Build Stantec's profile and reputation within the regional market.
- Champion innovation, sustainability and digital transformation across all projects.
- Act as the senior engineering authority for the region.
- Provide technical oversight and governance on complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Promote engineering excellence, quality assurance and best practice across all disciplines.
- Drive innovation in sustainable building design, decarbonisation, net zero strategies and digital delivery.
- Support the development of technical capability across mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, sustainability and specialist engineering teams.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with strategic clients.
- Lead major pursuits, bids and framework opportunities.
- Develop long-term account strategies for key clients.
- Identify opportunities for cross-business collaboration and integrated service delivery.
- Represent Stantec at industry events, conferences and client forums.
- Increase market share across priority sectors including commercial, healthcare, defence, science and technology, education, transport and data centres.
- Provide executive oversight of major projects and programmes.
- Ensure successful delivery against quality, programme, commercial and client objectives.
- Drive project profitability and financial performance across the regional portfolio.
- Monitor resource utilisation and capacity planning.
- Support project teams in resolving complex delivery challenges.
- Promote a culture of accountability, risk management and continuous improvement.
- Inspire, develop and grow multidisciplinary teams across the region.
- Lead recruitment, succession planning and talent development activities.
- Create an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing culture.
- Mentor senior technical and project leaders.
- Support the development of future leaders within the business.
- Champion employee engagement, wellbeing and professional development.
You will be an established engineering leader with a proven track record of growing and leading multidisciplinary buildings businesses within a consultancy environment.
Essential
- Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered status (CEng) through an appropriate professional institution.
- Significant leadership experience within a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy.
- Proven track record of winning and delivering major buildings projects and programmes.
- Strong understanding of building engineering design and delivery.
- Demonstrable experience leading large technical teams and complex project portfolios.
- Strong commercial and financial management capability.
- Established client network across the Northeast.
- Experience developing and executing business growth strategies.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Experience across multiple sectors including healthcare, commercial, residential, defence, and data centres.
- Experience leading regional or national business units.
- Strong profile within the engineering and built environment sector.
- Experience delivering integrated multidisciplinary solutions.
- Knowledge of modern digital engineering and BIM-led delivery approaches.
- Experience supporting business integration activities.
