We’re looking for an R&D Tooling & Production Engineer to join our Snap Lab team in Oxfordshire! The successful candidate will join our talented multidisciplinary team to develop new tools and processes that will enable next generation nanophotonics and related systems for our world-leading augmented reality displays.

What you’ll do:

• Work on in-house early development of novel means of manufacturing augmented reality waveguides
• Make important contributions to new and existing automation and measurement processes
• Collaborate with internal and external teams across a variety of disciplines and global locations. This may involve occasional travel within the UK and abroad.
• Collaborate with equipment vendors and suppliers to identify and source new components and systems
• Assist in transfer and dissemination of process knowledge within the company
  
  

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong background in practical production engineering from early-stage prototyping to volume production with a demonstrable track record of the mechanical design and development of production tooling and assembly processes
• Experience of designing for common fabrication and manufacturing processes including rapid turn production
• Can operate effectively in an R&D environment with a high degree of technical uncertainty
• Excellent technical problem solving skills with good attention to detail and a can-do attitude
• Shows curiosity and adaptability
• Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and team structures
• Ability to work independently or closely with colleagues as required
• Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks or NX), ability to generate 2D drawings according to GD&T best practice
  
  

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Practical experience of building and validating new proof-of-concept tooling and assembly processes
• Experience of automated production systems
• Knowledge of optics and practical experience of applied optics
• Experience of industrial or machine vision system design and development
• Experience of mechanical design, optical design, robotics, process automation
• Experience of a variety of industrial processes including adhesive dispensing and surface treatment
• Experience of software control of instrumentation and equipment (python, Matlab, etc.)
• Knowledge of inspection and metrology to GD&T, and quality management systems
• Cleanroom experience
  
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• Masters (MEng, MSc or equivalent) in Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered
• Minimum of five years industrial experience ideally within a research and development environment
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Higher research degree (PhD, EngD or equivalent) in an engineering discipline or related field
  
  

We offer a competitive salary range £82,000 - £103,000 (annual salary) which is commensurate with your qualifications and experience and the level of this role. This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs. Our compensation philosophy is designed to attract and retain top talent in the industry.
