Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced and proactive Technical R&D Project Manager to join our dynamic product development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and finalising R&D projects related to new product development, from initial concept through to manufacturing handover. You will lead cross-functional teams, manage project resources, mitigate risks, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to budget, ultimately contributing to Heatmiser's market-leading product range.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with R&D, product management, and other stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, technical specifications, and deliverables for new heating control products and features
  • Create comprehensive project plans detailing tasks, timelines, resource allocation (hardware engineers, software/firmware developers, testers), dependencies, and budgets using appropriate tools and methodologies
  • Lead and coordinate project activities, track progress against milestones, manage changes to scope/schedule/cost, and ensure adherence to Heatmiser's product development processes
  • Manage and motivate cross-functional R&D project teams, fostering collaboration and effective communication between hardware, software, firmware, testing, and potentially external partners
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, particularly technical challenges inherent in R&D, and manage issues through to resolution
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned R&D projects, providing regular status updates, reports, and presentations to stakeholders, including senior management
  • Ensure project deliverables meet required quality standards and align with relevant industry regulations and compliance requirements
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Heatmiser’s R&D and project management processes
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive project documentation throughout the product development lifecycle. As well as overseeing DfMEA and DVP creation and execution
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the R&D team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field.
  • APM, PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, CAPM qualifications.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex R&D projects.
  • Strong understanding of R&D processes, product development lifecycle, and innovation methodologies

Competencies

  • Ability to align R&D initiatives with business goals and long-term innovation strategy
  • Skilled in identifying, assessing, and mitigating technical and project risks
  • Experience managing project budgets, forecasting costs, and optimising resource allocation
  • Strong technical writing skills for preparing project documentation, regulatory submissions, and internal reports
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
