Are you ready to play a pivotal role in one of the most important engineering challenges on the Hinkley Point A site? Do you thrive in hands‑on, technical environments where every decision supports safe, successful and highly complex waste retrieval and processing activities?
This is your opportunity to join the team delivering the Hinkley Wet Waste Retrievals and Processing projects key to the ILW waste journey and already in exciting stages of implementation, from active commissioning through to the final phases before operation. As a Project Engineer, you will be at the centre of activities such as waste recovery, equipment installation, commissioning and encapsulation processes, working closely with both internal teams and specialist contractors. If you’re looking for a role where variety, challenge and purpose come together and where a four‑day working week supports a great work‑life balance this could be your next step.
What Will You Be Doing
You’ll support the safe and efficient delivery of wet waste retrieval and processing work, contributing to everything from pumped/vacuum waste recovery to the installation and commissioning of plant and equipment. Your role will span technical problem‑solving, engineering design input, documentation control and hands‑on support throughout the full project lifecycle. You’ll help ensure activities meet functional requirements, engineering standards and regulatory expectations, while maintaining excellent configuration control and supporting learning across the team.
You’ll also play a vital part in preparing work packages, developing safe systems of work and ensuring projects are handed over smoothly to operations, complete with the right documentation, training materials and technical clarity. Flexibility is key you’ll apply your core discipline expertise while also working across wider engineering scopes where suitably qualified and experienced.
Key elements of the role include:
We’re looking for a technically strong and adaptable engineer who enjoys varied work and is comfortable stepping across disciplines when required. You’ll hold a minimum of an HNC, Engineering Degree or NQF Level 4 equivalent, and you’ll already have experience working in a disciplined engineering role mechanical, electrical, C&I or civil within an industrial plant environment. You’ll bring a strong understanding of engineering standards and demonstrate sound judgement in applying them across safety‑critical activities.
You’ll also have the confidence to contribute to design reviews, produce high‑quality documentation and support safe commissioning or decommissioning work. Experience in nuclear or project engineering is beneficial, as is familiarity with risk assessment methodology, CDM responsibilities, Safety Rules or a Quality Management System though these can be developed on the job if you bring the right foundation and drive to learn.
We welcome applications from electrical and C&I specialists as well as mechanical, civil and process engineers looking to broaden their experience. If you’re motivated by technical challenge, practical engineering and being part of a high‑impact project, we’d love to hear from you.
We offer a wide range of benefits - discover them all on our Careers website.
