About the role

We are looking for an experienced public transport professional to join North Northamptonshire Council as our Principal Public Transport Officer. Sitting within the Highways & Transport service of our Place & Economy directorate, the role forms part of our Transport Strategy team. Working with our transport planning and sustainable transport officers, you will be our lead officer and expert in public transport, with responsibility for developing and implementing plans to improve bus services for North Northamptonshire’s residents, including expanded services provision in our rural areas.


What will you be doing?

Leading our public transport team, you will be responsible for delivering our statutory duties and other priorities for public transport. You will lead the development of an improved bus network for North Northamptonshire through the delivery of our Enhanced Partnership with local bus operators, drafting an annual Bus Service Improvement Plan and contributing to the development of North Northamptonshire’s first Local Transport Plan. You will lead the delivery of an expanded network of rural bus services with additional bus subsidy funding and introduce new services to developing areas using Section 106 funding. You will also manage the concessionary travel scheme within North Northamptonshire.


About you

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have an in-depth knowledge of the workings of the bus industry from the local government perspective and of the statutory role of local authorities relating to bus services. Knowledge of the rail industry and budget management skills will also be useful.
