If so, RPS has an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our Water Consulting Scotland Team. This is a senior-level position reporting to the Operations Director and will lead the delivery of Wastewater Operational Projects for our clients across Scotland.
About The Team
RPS Water Consulting Scotland is a team of Engineers, Modellers, and Site Based Operations Teams providing Asset Survey and Operational Support to our Water Industry clients.
Our Grangemouth team carry out wastewater network activities such as flow monitoring, asset surveys and data monitoring equipment installations, helping gather critical operational data to improve model accuracy and better understand network performance.
About You
You will have extensive experience working in an operational management role. Ideally, you will have a good understanding of the wastewater industry and proven experience in delivering to financial targets alongside delivering on all programme, quality, and safety requirements.
You will be responsible for leading operational teams delivering multiple projects across Scotland, predominantly relating to wastewater networks and infrastructure.
You will also be developing new opportunities for projects; preparing and reviewing proposals; managing project contracts, and project cash flow, building and maintaining great working relationships with your project stakeholders; providing technical guidance for your projects; and supporting and developing your team.
The health and safety of your team will be another key aspect of the role, ensuring policies and procedures are followed and compliance levels are achieved.

Main Responsibilities
- The leadership of a wastewater operational team delivering a diverse portfolio of wastewater projects.
- Line Management of teams with overall responsibility for day-to-day workload planning and prioritisation, provision of technical direction and support, driving staff performance, motivation and career development.
- Management of all health and safety, quality and environmental aspects of projects.
- Responsible for commercial performance, forecasting and risk management, leading bids and proposals.
- Ensuring quality of project outputs and compliance with standards, specifications, and governance requirements.
- Building, maintaining and managing strong and collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients.
- Leading change management, continual Improvement of business and people to realise a high-performing team culture.
- Leading on growth, identifying opportunities to grow existing workstreams and developing new opportunities
- You will have extensive experience in the leadership and management of people and projects, ideally gained in the utility service industry or similar and will have the ability to deliver results in an operational environment.
- You will have proven experience managing performance and be able to analyse data to implement change, coupled with outstanding communication skills.
- The ability to engage at all levels, influence others and effectively contribute to contract and business development strategy ensuring efficient use of resources and equipment.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation and water industry regulation
- Ability to co-ordinate and manage staff at all levels, including line management of less experienced colleagues, improve organisational effectiveness and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Ability to build, lead and motivate a team both internally and in partnership with external clients, and provide technical guidance and mentorship.
- Ability to manage and support senior project managers to manage small to large projects/packages and programmes of work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, self-disciplined and having the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Project Management experience and ability to demonstrate a comprehensive commercial understanding.
- Proficient in the use of the MS Office suite, work management systems and applications are essential.
- Working in a fast-paced corporate environment.
- Wastewater Networks – Knowledge and understanding of operation and treatment
- NEC4 Contracts – Ideally NEC4 Professional Services group of contracts
- Primavera Unifier – contract management experience
- A degree in a relevant subject is desirable although significant previous experience may be considered.
- Chartered membership in relevant professional institutions (CIWEM, IOW, ICE or equivalent) would be an advantage.
- A full UK driving licence is also essential.
