Job Summary
The Senior information and knowledge manager work with the Business Management Head and Director Submarines to manage and control information flows within the Submarine Directorate leading and advising the 1* areas on best practice.
The Senior Information Manager will develop, implement and continually review and refine the organisation’s information governance, including its information management strategy, policy and processes to promote good practice and maintain compliance with statutory obligations. They ensure best practice is implemented within the organisation with regards to the acquisition, management and organisation of information, and facilitate access to information to maximise its exploitation and re-use. Provide advice and guidance to the organisation in respect of information handling, information lifecycle management and the interpretation of policy, and are pivotal in the procurement/acquisition/design of information assets, systems and applications, their management through life and their decommissioning. They also support information risk owners in discharging their responsibilities, working closely with Information Assurance (IA) and Information Technology (IT) colleagues.
Collaborate across Submarine Directorate with Business as Usual (BAU) and 1* programme leads to collate relevant information ahead of termly Information Management Working Groups and the Navy SIO Steering Group. Produce and publish Submarine Directorate 2* I&RM directives. Collaborate with the wider Defence Nuclear Enterprise information management teams to ensure Submarine Directorate has a coherent and coordinated approach with DNE wide information management strategy and implementation.
Manage and provide support to the SM Dir on information management related issues. Manage and lead on building and maintaining Director Submarines SharePoint and Teams sites for the 2* business management team and outer office area ensuring compliance.
The post will be based in Portsmouth NCHQ with the expectation of regular travel between sites and occasional travel to other defence locations including NB Clyde and Devonport.

This is a demanding SEO Senior information and knowledge manager role in a busy Directorate of over 3800 people (military and civilian) operating from Various Sites sites. The post holder will establish a new Business Management function to service teams based in Portsmouth and London, as well as coordinate with Clyde and Devonport Naval Base business management teams.
The role would suit an individual with experience of delivering Knowledge and information practices in a fast-paced environment. It requires strong technical, communication and organisational skills. The post holder will need to take a systematic approach to their own work and direct the work of others. They will need to be numerate, able to build SharePoint sites, draft procedures and communications to a senior level and be proficient in all MS365 applications.
