Marketing Expert for Global Brand Growth - Volunteer - #195600
World History Encyclopedia
Date: 6 hours ago
City: Godalming
Contract type: Full time
Remote
Help the world's most-consulted history publication scale! We need a volunteer Marketing Expert to boost global brand growth, champion our printed books, promote our mobile app, and expand our educational reach. Join our remote team and help connect millions with human heritage.
What difference will you make?
The internet is changing rapidly. As AI summaries begin to take over traditional search engines, people are increasingly getting oversimplified or inaccurate historical information, and platforms like ours face the challenge of declining search traffic. Your expertise will help us adapt by turning our massive global footprint into direct, intentional brand recognition. By finding creative ways to bring readers straight to our website, grow our mobile app, and promote our print books, you will help us build a directly engaged audience that bypasses the AI middleman to get verified, human-authored history.
Building this direct relationship with our community is vital to our mission as a non-profit. When readers engage with us directly rather than through third-party AI summaries, it secures the financial sustainability we need to keep our core digital library completely free. This revenue is what allows us to support the millions of students, teachers, and underfunded schools worldwide who rely on us for equal access to education. Ultimately, your work will protect historical integrity on an evolving web, ensuring reliable knowledge remains accessible to everyone.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a proactive, hands-on marketing practitioner who is excited to both design our growth strategies and roll up their sleeves to execute them. Because we are a lean non-profit, we aren't looking for a high-level consultant who just hands over a roadmap for someone else to implement. We need a doer Someone who will actively drive the outreach and handle the actual day-to-day execution to help us reach our goals.
You do not need to be an expert in every single area we are tackling, but you should be a resourceful marketer with at least five years experience who is comfortable managing projects from concept to completion.
Ideal Experience & Skills
The most critical quality is a "roll-up-your-sleeves" mindset. While you will collaborate closely with our Founder & CEO and our Publishing Director for alignment, you will be the primary driver doing the actual work. You should be someone who values educational integrity and is genuinely motivated to take action to protect human-authored history in an AI-driven world.
Remote
What will you be doing?
We are looking for an experienced Marketing Expert to help us expand our global presence and share our love of history with new audiences. You will work directly alongside our Founder & CEO and our Publishing Director. We operate as a small, tight-knit international team of dedicated historians, editors, and developers, and we need your marketing expertise to turn our massive website traffic into structured, global brand awareness.
Strategic Goals
We are looking for candidates with experience in at least two of the areas below. You will be responsible for both planning the strategy and implementing it.

Strategic Goals
We are looking for candidates with experience in at least two of the areas below. You will be responsible for both planning the strategy and implementing it.
- Expanding into Schools Help us move beyond individual teachers using our tools to getting our encyclopedia officially adopted by school districts and educational boards, with a focus on the United States and Canada. Your goal will be to reach administrators and decision-makers who can bring our trusted resources into classrooms at an institutional level.
- Securing Media Coverage Increase our presence in mainstream and niche media, including newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and podcasts. You will help us design a strategy to get our editorial team featured as expert guests and secure features in publications read by history enthusiasts and educators.
- Driving Mobile App Growth Help us scale downloads for our mobile app and position it to become the #1 history app globally. You will help us design strategies to significantly increase its visibility and find natural, effective ways to encourage our millions of monthly website visitors to download and interact with the app.
- Promoting Printed Books Create a structured marketing strategy for our physical books. Since this is entirely new territory for us, we need your guidance to build campaigns that connect our print catalog with book reviewers, digital influencers, and readers.
- Growing Widespread Brand Awareness Help us introduce World History Encyclopedia —and our new interactive digital research tools— to younger history enthusiasts. You will focus on finding creative ways to weave our resources naturally into large online communities and student hubs.
