Company: ABP

We’re the UK's largest ports operator with a network of 21 ports around Britain. We handle around one quarter of the UK's seaborne trade and contribute £7.5 billion to our economy every year.

It’s a story we’re proud of but it doesn’t end there. We’re transforming our business and embracing the future.

We offer a vast range of roles spanning the UK, all rooted in a culture that welcomes diversity, fosters talent, encourages internal movement and progression, and places safety as our number one priority.

Our Marine Engineering team in the Humber plays a vital role in keeping our operations running safely and efficiently. We maintain and support all pilot vessels, survey vessels, and navigation marks across the four ports we operate in throughout the region.

Following an internal promotion, we’re now looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Fitter with a strong background in diesel engine maintenance, and some auto electrical experience would be beneficial. Experience within the marine sector is preferred, but not essential — the right mechanical skillset and a willingness to work in a marine environment are what matter most.

You’ll be part of a skilled six‑person team responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of marine assets. The role involves working on and near the water, with tasks carried out in and around the River Humber, so confidence in this environment is important.

Working Pattern
You’ll work a rotating 6‑week roster with some flexibility required:

  • 4 weeks of days
  • 2 weeks of lates to include weekends
  • On‑call requirement included in the rotation
What You'll Bring

  • Strong experience maintaining diesel engines
  • Mechanical fitting skills suited to a varied, hands‑on engineering environment
  • Marine experience (advantageous but not essential)
  • Confidence working in and around water
  • A proactive approach to problem‑solving and teamwork
Why Should You Make ABP Your First Port Of Call?

  • Have the chance to make a difference in a business critical to UK trade
  • Work within an exciting, innovative, growing business.
  • You can thrive in an inclusive environment where every individual can be themselves and feel respected
  • Receive competitive salary and benefits package
  • Get support for training, personal development and further education
  • Benefit from support and engagement through dedicated management and leadership
We offer a competitive salary, contributory pension from day one (Starting at 3% employee contribution with 5% company match), private healthcare, access to our Employee Assistance Program, 26 days annual leave (plus bank holidays – plus the option to purchase additional days), wide range of discounts and cash back with high street and online retailers. We offer an inclusive work environment with an in-house training academy which offers ongoing opportunities to develop your skills.

Closing date for the role is 9th July, and interviews are expected to take place w.c. 20/07
