WHO ARE WE?

Optos is a leading medical device company engaged in the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of ultra-widefield retinal imaging devices.

Our imaging devices can be found globally, in opticians, optometrists and hospitals where clinicians can take an optomap image of the retina which facilitates the early detection, management and effective treatment of disorders and diseases such as retinal detachments and tears, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related degeneration. The image can also indicate evidence of non-eye diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension and certain cancers. Optos is committed to utilising the latest technology to manufacture new products and software that support optomap as a world-class standard of care, helping eye care professionals around the world save sight and lives.

Role Summary

We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Technician Apprentice to join our Operations team based in Dunfermline.

This is a technical role responsible for assembling and fault-finding of highly complicated systems that require knowledge of mechanics, electronic, optical engineering and software.

  • Assembling materials in kit form whilst stringently adhering to working procedures.
  • Aligning complicated optical systems.
  • Fault finding of scan heads.
  • Ensuring capacity and quality levels are maintained.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of area always ensuring cleanliness and functionality at all times.
  • Effective use of jigs and fixtures.
  • Working as part of a team to help achieve targets.
  • Completion of Microsoft Word and Excel based route cards.
  • Flexibility to move between different sections to broaden experience.

Whilst working at Optos, you will also be studying towards your Modern Apprenticeship at Fife College. The course is delivered in a blended manner and during your first year you would attend college 3 days per week and 2 days in the workplace. The timetable will vary each year.

  • Minimum of National 5 or Standard Grade in English, Maths, with a science and/or technical subject being advantageous or an equivalent NC.
  • Desire to work in a manufacturing environment with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • An ability to work and manage time effectively with overall good time keeping.
  • Team oriented - strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately follow instructions.
  • PC literate – specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
