Position Title: Maintenance Engineer

Location: Milton Keynes, On-site

Shift: Night Shift 6pm to 3am, Sunday to Thursday

Position Overview

The Night Shift Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the continuous and safe operation of all plant machinery and equipment within the factory. This includes maintaining offices, laboratories, and communal areas to the highest standards. The role requires effective communication between Early Shift and Night Shift Engineers to ensure smooth operations and knowledge transfer.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform emergency breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance (PPM), personal and team projects, new installations, testing, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, providing resolutions and process improvements.
  • Install, maintain, and monitor machinery, ensuring all plant equipment operates at optimal efficiency.
  • Work with specialist equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLC), control systems, and production line machinery.
  • Maintain maintenance stores and ensure tools and equipment are in proper working condition.
  • Adhere to maintenance strategies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with site departments to achieve Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental targets.
  • Comply with company Health, Safety & Welfare at Work policies and procedures.


Minimum Requirements

  • City & Guilds Level 1, 2, 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering OR NVQ Level 1, 2, 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems: single-phase, three-phase, inverters, rectifiers, sensors, relays, motors, contactors, control panels, wiring & re-wiring, testing, and basic PLC applications.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems: hydraulics, pneumatics, belts, bearings, chains, sprockets, pumps, valves, and conveyors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting and knowledge-sharing.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and on-call as needed.


Preferred Requirements

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.
  • Experience in a similar maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
