This is a 6 month 10 session contract (7 direct clinical contact and 3 SPA)
Emergency Medicine at Wrexham Maelor Hospital (WMH) has undergone a radical transformation towards a modern and rapidly evolving service that is ambitious to see the highest standards of emergency care for its population. We are looking for a Consultant who has the vision, ambition and drive to work alongside the existing team to progress thedepartment.
The post is based at the WMH site which is a very rapidly developing and strategically important hospital within North Wales. With partner hospitals in Bodelwyddan and Bangor as well as associated community hospitals, Minor Injury/Illness Unit, and primary care services. WMH is part of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB). This is a fully integrated organisation and one of the largest healthcare providers in theUK.
Main duties of the job
The ED currently provides Consultant shop floor cover Monday - Friday from 8am to midnight. This may be extended with additional Consultant expansion.
WMH operates a model based on the RCEM standards of an Emergency Physician in Charge (EPIC). The EPIC coordinates the ED with the nurse in charge based in the ED hub according to the standard operating procedures. Consultants are expected to provide high standards of shop floor leadership and direction, working closely with colleagues from Welsh Ambulance Services Trust (WAST), nursing, and management to ensure the safety of patients and to ensure good and timely decisionmaking and patient flow through the hospital. There is time allocated for non-patient faced Direct Clinical Contact, which would involve review of Radiology reports and Concerns Management.

- Registered with the GMC
- Licensed to practice
- Current ALS / ATLS / EPLS provider or equivalent
- On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Emergency Medicine or CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- Current Advanced Life Support Instructor
