Position Summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong work behaviors to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant in East Grinstead. The Laboratory assistant is a critical role that works with the Product Support and R&D teams.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately maintain laboratory records to ensure flawless documentation of experiments and procedures.
  • Ensure calibration of laboratory equipment, including pipettes, to maintain the highest level of accuracy in experiments.
  • Clean laboratory equipment with exceptional attention to detail, ensuring a strict adherence to cleanliness standards.
  • Sterilize waste using an Autoclave and dishwasher, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of consumables used in the laboratory to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
  • Manufacture various microbiological growth media, such as broths and agar plates, to support research and development activities.
  • Manage bacterial culture stocks through subculturing, storage, and other necessary procedures.
  • Strictly adhere to company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain a high level of health and safety standards.
  • Perform any other laboratory duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the team.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma, Secondary Education, Advanced Certificate, or equivalent.

Experience:

  • No previous laboratory experience is mandatory but previous experience in manual work will be appreciated
  • Attention to detail is essential to ensure accurate recording of data and precise execution of laboratory procedures.
  • Adaptability is crucial in a fast-paced research and development environment, where priorities may change.
  • Understanding of laboratory health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize a varied workload and manage time efficiently.
  • Proficient in strictly adhering to prescribed procedures and accurately carrying out instructions.
  • A keen interest in Science and/or Biology would be desirable, demonstrating a passion for the field.
