Building a sustainable tomorrow

We are seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to join us on a Major Project at Devonport dockyard in Plymouth, Devon where we are the preferred contractor (in JV with Kier) to carry out heavy civil engineering construction refurbishing the Royal Navy dockyard.

Due to the site being a high-Security Military Naval base, additional security checks will need to be made – BPSS level of security clearance is required. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process.

Your mission

As Health & Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Support the H&S Managers in the promotion and use of H&S policies and procedures in conjunction with KBJV Policies.
  • Assist the H&S Managers to lead the development of company H&S objectives, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • To conduct Senior safety checks on the KBJV with the H&S Advisors.
  • Produce monthly and yearly H&S performance statistics and reports.
  • Produce and publish H&S documentation to a high standard.
  • Work closely with the operational teams in carrying out their roles and H&S responsibilities.
  • Assist the operational teams in developing Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Support the operational teams in developing and reviews RAMS.
  • Conduct regular and robust health and safety Inspections & Audits.
  • Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported in a timely manner, and are also effectively investigated, contributing to Incident Review Boards.
  • Assist Management teams in the development of health and safety related documents.
  • Advise and assist in the identification of health and safety training requirements.
  • Undertake and plan D&A Testing in accordance with KBJV process.

Key Responsibilities

  • To implement and comply with all legal requirements, KBJV Health, Safety Management Systems, Client requirements and best practice.
  • Ensure the contract is compliant with all H&S: statutory requirements, accredited processes and procedures, and contract specific requirements.
  • Manage the reporting and review of H&S accidents / incidents on the contract.
  • Support the assessment of staff to ensure capacity, capability and competency are maintained.
  • Comply with KBJV HR policies, procedures, and Values.
  • Ensure all new starters are inducted appropriately and in accordance with the joint venture requirements.

Who are we looking for?

Essential

  • NEBOSH Certificate (preferably Construction) or equivalent.
  • Membership of relevant professional institution (e.g., Tech IOSH or above).
  • Experience working as a Senior HS&E Advisor.
  • Accident/Investigation Qualification (e.g., Kelvin TOPSET, ROSPA or NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation)
  • Auditing to ISO45001 standard

Desirable

  • 5 Years practical HS&E experience.
  • Experience of working in construction and heavy civil environment (CDM Designers)
  • Environmental qualification (IEMA or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 Standards.
