We are looking for two Heads of Year to join our staff team at Stoke Damerel Community College and Scott Medical and Healthcare College Campus
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the campus and further contribute to the life chances of young people in the school and across the Trust. The Head of Year will provide pastoral and welfare support and guidance within the specified year group. Working with students to maximise their achievements and attainment across the college. They must be able to establish excellent relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues and work well within a team. The post holder will report to the Assistant Headteacher as part of the overall pastoral team managed by the link member of the Senior Management Team

Main responsibilities:
  • Take responsibility for raising the standards of academic success, conduct and character development in your year group
  • Set, through personal example, an appropriate tone and expectation for your year group in support of the overall school direction and ethos
  • Maintain high expectations of all students within your designated year group – with regards to uniform and equipment, attitude to learning, effort, resilience, achievement, politeness, conduct around school in the community
  • Provide support to the inclusion team, specifically working with students with special educational needs and those who are vulnerable
  • Maintain regular contact with families about children in your year group and others
  • Liaise with appropriate external agencies to ensure students pastoral and academic needs are met
  • Establish and run effective ‘Pastoral Support Plans’ and ‘Team Around Me’ meetings so students requiring above the universal offer are supported to be successful
  • Help to manage centralised detentions
  • Cover lessons across the campus
  • Contribute to the on call, out of lesson provision and detention rota
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership Team to drive the school values and priorities
  • Demonstrate relentless positivity and ambition for young people
  • Have a visible presence around school, during breaks and lunchtimes and in tutor groups to reinforce school expectations and standards
  • Be a committed, highly competent, energised and reflective individual
  • Support the Headteacher and wider Senior Leadership Team with whole school priorities
  • Ensure students feel safe in school and follow school safeguarding policies and processes required.
  • Work alongside colleagues within the school and across the Greenshaw Learning Trust to continually assess our provision

You will need:
  • Strong academic record, including English and Maths at Grade C, 4/5 or equivalent
  • Experience of working with/supervising students including knowledge of behavioural and learning difficulties.
  • Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness or relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of a range of strategies to establish a purposeful learning environment and to promote good behaviour.
  • Knowledge of the barriers to engagement at school, or attendance, and awareness of interventions that support in addressing these
  • Experience of working with support agencies.
