We are looking for a resilient and assertive individual to become our Head of Safety Assurance within our Rail infrastructure business. Within this role, you will execute successful delivery of RAMSS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety, and Security) requirements across all areas of Project Delivery. This role aligns project activities with the needs of our clients specifically Network Rail and TfL/LU, ensuring compliance and effective implementation. Working closely with customer acceptance and approval bodies, Project Delivery and R&D teams, this role will manage this crucial interface and play a strategic role within the business.

Within this role, you will report to the Chief Engineer and will contribute significantly to the overall leadership of the department and provide functional leadership support in the area of Specific Application Safety.

You’ll make an impact by

  • Engaging in all project phases; tender, budget, requirements and delivery and ensure all RAMSS-related requirements are implemented
  • Providing management, guidance and direction with the development of Specific Application Safety Cases associated with projects delivered from the regional offices
  • Managing the interface between customer approval bodies and projects
  • Maintaining strong relationships with Railway Operators and acceptance bodies to support smooth approvals and collaboration
  • Consistently having portfolio responsibility in ensuring all Main Line projects are being supported from a RAMSS perspective
  • Having line management responsibility for the safety assurance engineers assigned to the Main Line projects

Your success will be grounded by

  • An Engineering qualification
  • Strong leadership of teams
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001, the CSM regulations, CENELEC EN50126, EN50128 and EN50129
  • Extensive experience in RAMS and Validation
  • A good understanding of signalling systems and products covering ETCS, Control Systems, Interlockings and Train Detection
  • In depth knowledge of customer acceptance and approvals processes (within Network Rail is advantageous) for both bespoke and interoperable systems
  • Experience of design techniques and knowledge of all phases of the design lifecycle
