  • To support experimental activities in the BGS ‘Hydrothermal’, and ‘Hydrates and Ices’ laboratories of the Fluid and Rock Processes Laboratory Cluster
  • Running experiments (assembly, sampling of pressurised experiments)
  • Data analysis, manipulation, interpretation and reporting
  • Presentation of results both internally and externally to project clients
  • Assisting the design, build and maintenance of new and existing experimental equipment
About you
Candidates will be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject, with an aptitude for practical activities (eg lab experiments) but other skills such as data handling and modelling would be desirable Given BGS’s current and future commitments to externally funded work relevant to Decarbonisation & Resource Management, you will become involved in projects relating to radioactive waste, CCS, geothermal, energy storage, hydrogen storage and unconventional hydrocarbons Appropriate training including both internal and external courses will be given to the successful candidate Please note – you will be required to have the appropriate level of security screening/vetting required for the role.   • BSc degree in a relevant subject. (For example, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, geochemistry, environmental science, analytical chemistry) (S)

  • GCSE grade C or above in English Language (or equivalent) (S)
  • A higher qualification (e.g. Msc in Geochemistry) (S)
  • Full UK driving licence (S)

  • Must have demonstrable practical laboratory experience (S)
  • Geochemical modelling – i.e. use of codes such as PhreeqC (I)
  • Working with pressurised systems (I)
  • Handling environmental data, plus data manipulation (I)
