City: Market Harborough
Contract type: Full time

The Amara Centre is seeking Founding Trustees to help shape a new UK-based cancer charity improving access to cancer care and support for people affected by cancer in Ghana. Join us at the beginning of our journey and help build an organisation with lasting impact.

What difference will you make?

As a Founding Trustee, your contribution will help shape the future of The Amara Centre from the very beginning.

At this early stage of development, trustees will play an important role in helping establish a strong foundation for the organisation. Your involvement will support the creation of effective governance, thoughtful decision-making and a clear strategic direction as The Amara Centre develops.

You will have the opportunity to contribute your experience, knowledge and perspective to important areas of organisational growth, including developing partnerships, strengthening fundraising approaches, supporting cancer awareness and advocacy, and helping ensure our work remains focused on the needs of people affected by cancer in Ghana.

By joining the founding Board, you will help create an organisation that is built on strong values, accountability and a commitment to listening to the voices of patients, survivors, caregivers and families.

Your contribution will help The Amara Centre grow in a sustainable way and build the trust needed to work effectively with communities, supporters, healthcare partners and other stakeholders.

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact by helping establish not only what The Amara Centre does, but the principles and approach that will guide the charity for years to come.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking individuals who share The Amara Centre’s commitment to improving access to cancer care and support for people affected by cancer in Ghana.

The ideal Founding Trustee will bring enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to help shape a new organisation during its early stages of development. We welcome applications from people with a range of professional backgrounds, life experiences and perspectives.

We are particularly interested in individuals who can contribute experience or knowledge in areas such as

  • Charity governance or trustee experience
  • Healthcare, public health or cancer support
  • Fundraising, income generation or partnership development
  • Communications, awareness and advocacy
  • Finance, legal, risk or organisational management
  • Community engagement and stakeholder relationships
  • Strategy, planning or organisational development

The most important qualities we are looking for are

  • A genuine commitment to our mission and the communities we aim to support.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to work with other trustees to build something new.
  • The ability to contribute thoughtful ideas, ask constructive questions and support effective decision-making.
  • Reliability, integrity and a commitment to good governance.
  • An openness to learning and contributing as the organisation develops.

We would particularly welcome applications from individuals with a connection to Ghana, whether through personal heritage, professional experience, healthcare, community involvement or other meaningful links.

We also value lived experience. People who have personal experience of cancer, or who have supported a family member, friend or loved one affected by cancer, are encouraged to apply if they feel able to share their perspective and contribute to our work.

Above all, we are looking for people who are passionate about helping build a new organisation with purpose, compassion and integrity. Founding Trustees will have the opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping The Amara Centre’s future and helping create a lasting impact for people affected by cancer in Ghana.

What will you be doing?

The Amara Centre is establishing its founding Board of Trustees and is seeking individuals who are passionate about helping shape a new organisation focused on improving access to cancer care and support for people affected by cancer in Ghana.

As a Founding Trustee, you will play an important role in helping establish the direction, governance and future development of The Amara Centre. Working alongside the Chair, Founder and fellow trustees, you will contribute to key decisions as the organisation moves through its early stages of growth.

At this important stage, our focus is on building strong foundations, developing effective governance structures, preparing for charity registration and establishing the partnerships and resources needed to create meaningful impact.

Founding Trustees will have the opportunity to contribute to areas such as strategic planning, fundraising, partnerships, communications, healthcare support initiatives and organisational development. As the Board develops, trustees may also have opportunities to support specific areas of interest through working groups or subcommittees.

This is a unique opportunity to help build an organisation from the beginning. The founding Board will help shape not only The Amara Centre’s future activities, but also the values, culture and approach that will guide the charity as it grows.

We are creating a Board that values collaboration, openness and constructive discussion. Founding Trustees will work together to ensure The Amara Centre develops into a trusted organisation that listens to the experiences of people affected by cancer and works towards improving access to care and support in Ghana.

By joining at this early stage, you will be making a lasting contribution to the creation of a charity with the ambition to make a meaningful difference.
