Diffblue is a fast growing start-up changing the way software is developed using Artificial Intelligence.

We're looking for a part-time Finance Assistant to join us at Diffblue for 22.5 hours / week (either 3 days per week or spread across 5 days), reporting to the CFO. This is a remote role with a monthly visit to the Oxford office for company meetings and as needed.

About The Role

Diffblue is entering a new stage of growth and we're looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Finance team. This is a new position and offers you a chance to develop a career in Finance, working as part of an experienced, friendly, professional and high performing team. We would like to support the successful candidate to take on a wide variety of tasks, setting them up to have a strong knowledge base on which they can build their career with us.

You will also have an opportunity to pursue a qualification in accounting via the apprenticeship scheme (if you qualify) or a part contribution towards the course.

What You’ll Do

  • Booking and coding supplier invoices and completing weekly payment runs
  • Ensure invoices are approved for payment
  • Monitoring costs against budget
  • Customer invoicing and cash collection
  • Ownership of expenses and credit cards
  • Analysis of monthly aged creditor reports - highlighting and resolving issues
  • Assist with recording month end transactions
  • Key internal and external stakeholder management and communication
  • Maintain good finance documentation that can be searched easily
  • Liaise with the outsourced accountants on finance matters
  • Ownership of the finance mailbox, dealing with supplier queries
  • Improving and implementing processes to drive efficiencies and best practice
  • Any others tasks as required suitable for the role

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • Proficient skills in excel
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles
  • Good with numbers and great attention to detail
  • Well organised and efficient (completer-finisher)
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • At a minimum you should have started your Qualification in Accounting - ACA/ACCA/CIMA
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Industry-specific experience or experience in similar Finance Assistant role is requires, while start-up experience is desirable
  • Recognise the importance of teamwork, you will be a good team player, always willing to help and support
  • Genuinely enjoy what you do that resonates through the positive attitude, the initiative and curiosity that you demonstrate in wanting to learn and contribute
  • Open to feedback, proactive, a fast learner, prepared to try new things, improve processes and willing to get your hands dirty
  • Due to the nature of this role, high levels of integrity and managing confidentiality is critical
